NextImg:RFK Jr.’s contentious Senate hearing: Letters to the Editor — Sept. 6, 2025

One couldn’t help but be embarrassed by the current administration watching Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. testify before the Senate (“Quacking under pressure,” Sept. 5).

He was clearly in over his head as senators from both sides exposed him as a dangerous spreader of disinformation. It quickly became obvious that he doesn’t do his homework, he’s not in command of the facts and his subjective opinions are based largely on a whim rather than scientific proof.

Bob Ory

Chicago, Ill.

The vilification of RFK Jr. and his attempts to bring sanity and transparency to the policies of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention seem to be off the mark.

He is doing a superb job opening the ugliest and most dangerous can of worms that has been hidden and unchallenged for decades.

Ruth Rozenberg

Queens

RFK Jr. believes average citizens are smart enough to evaluate the science of vaccines and make decisions for themselves.

But we mandate that people must not drive 100 miles per hour on the freeway, don’t we? Many speeders feel like they are in control of their cars, when they are not.

We regularly enforce heavy penalties for the sake of health and safety. Most of our people get that and respect the legal mandates.

Vaccines don’t prevent car crashes, but can prevent raging epidemics that take hundreds of thousands of lives — as diseases often did before the development and introduction of vaccines.

The great majority of citizens are not competent to judge the findings of biomedical science. Kennedy himself, who has no medical training, is one of those.

Kimball Shinkoskey

Woods Cross, Utah

How would you feel if your child got the measles because another parent selfishly didn’t vaccinate their child?

For diseases with an effective vaccine, the cases are few and far between, if not eliminated.

Where do you think smallpox has gone?

Mindy Rader

New City

If nothing else, the Senate grilling of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. proved that bipartisanship isn’t dead.

Paul Newman

Merion Station, Pa.

No one knows what causes autism or why chronic diseases have increased over the last few decades. But one thing is for certain: We will never have an honest discussion about it so long as the Democrats are part of the conversation.

Dems couldn’t care less about making America healthy. Like everything they do, it’s all about politics and regaining power.

Michael D’Auria

Bronxville

Watching a small part of the hearings was like watching the Maury Povich show. Senators who carried the Biden water of misdirection, senility and downright lack of interest, attacked RFK Jr. as if he had been in office during the COVID years.

With politicians entering public service with meager net worth and leaving as multi-millionaires, we must beg the question: How did their wealth explode?

RFK Jr. has always been controversial, but at least we know where his wealth came from.

Lee Fleischman

Stamford, Conn.

The United States is 4.3% of the world’s population and accounts for a significant portion of pharmaceutical drug consumption, yet our overall health is horrible.

We have staggering rates of chronic diseases, especially in young people, an increasing mental-health crisis and unbelievable obesity rates across all age groups.

We should continue along the path RFK Jr. is paving that shows good health has little to do with taking pharmaceutical drugs.

Francis Rushford

Manhattan

For some inexplicable reason, President Trump proffers this fellow who is hell-bent on doing away with scientific medical advancements.

Trump sits by idly as RFK Jr. works feverishly to dismantle the agency which was once the gold standard in health care.

How does anyone trust RFK Jr.’s judgment?
