NextImg:Review: We tried the Ostrichpillow Go travel pillow — here’s why we love it

What has a long neck that needs protection and also can’t fly?

Both an ostrich and someone without an Ostrichpillow neck pillow for their travels in 2023.

Jokes aside, there is nothing worse than sitting on a long flight, train ride or car trip, tossing and turning to get comfortable and then waking up with horrible pain in your neck, hands or back from your sleeping position.

It can truly ruin the rest of your vacation, as not only does your neck hurt, but chances are you didn’t get adequate sleep during your journey either.

With a trip of our own coming up to the Caribbean, we didn’t want any kinks in our plans or our necks, so we ordered the Ostrichpillow Go, the travel pillow from the brand that has rave reviews and happy customers.

After testing the pillow on two five-hour flights, plus a few shorter journeys, read our verdict below, in addition to more information on the brand, their offerings, prices for their pillows and advice for how to best travel with an ostrich in your carry-on… only partially joking on that last one.

Ostrichpillow is really the crossover of function and self care. At the core of each product is the mission to help you relax, get comfortable and feel supported, be it with a good night’s sleep with their traditional bed pillows or help relieve cramps or pain using their heated Heatbag or Hot and Cold Eye Mask.

They are also a climate conscious brand, vowing to be carbon neutral in their shipping and production practices.

“We make sure that we offset the carbon cost of anything you buy from our store. This means that every item you purchase direct from our store goes directly into funding these projects to protect our environment, and we want to sincerely thank you for helping us to be able to contribute to the betterment of our planet,” reads the site.

Otherwise, Ostrichpillow is a one-stop shop for comfortable pillows and care items that help you relax, recuperate and enjoy both your sleeping and waking hours.

Ostrichpillow products feel super luxe, but many have a very reasonable price-point. The Ostrichpillow Go Neck Pillow that we tested retails for $60 on their site.Other items on the site range in price from $19 to $120 for a full-sized bed pillow.

The travel pillow is made of super soft and flexible memory foam core, that holds it’s shape but it soft enough to form to your body. It also has a washable outer cover that you can wash after a trip or a sweaty night’s sleep.

I know I may look young, but please tell that to my body, especially when sitting for long periods of time. After refusing to schlepp a travel pillow with me and then complaining about my neck for almost my whole life, I decided enough was enough and brought the Ostrichpillow with me on my flights to and from JFK to Aruba, Curaçao and then back.

Transport and packing: I was originally against using a travel pillow because I didn’t want one more thing taking up space in my bag or in my hands — when I travel, they are already full with my passport and phone in one hand and a Starbucks in the other. While the pillow does not deflate or pack flat, it does come with a handy Velcro closure that I looped around my suitcase handle for a hands-free experience.

Neck support: Obviously, the main purpose of a travel pillow is to support your neck when trying to sleep on a plane or in a car. I did find that I needed to adjust the pillow a few times to find my perfect position, as the Velcro can be finicky if you have a larger neck. However, once I found a comfy position, I was able to fall asleep perfectly, and woke with no discomfort in my neck or shoulders.

Other uses: Because I also have a bad back and herniated discs (I know, too young for this!) I decided to undo the pillow and place it behind my back for some lumbar support. Due to the memory foam and the way the pillow wraps around the body, I actually loved this use even more than on my neck, and was able to recline while also supporting my lumbar.

Washing and storage: After my return, I did a mountain load of laundry right away. All I had to do to wash my pillow was unzip the cover and toss it in the wash. I usually do all my laundry on cold to preserve the colors, so this worked just fine. To store, I kept the circular box that the pillow came in and was able to roll it up and put it back, good as new for my next trip.
