Socialist Rep. Jamaal Bowman ripped The New York Post on X after the city’s paper of record endorsed his primary opponent, Westchester County Executive George Latimer — but Bowman didn’t get the reaction he expected.
“I am proud to be the only candidate in the NY-16 primary not endorsed by the racist right wing New York Post,” Bowman snarled Friday in a post that went moderately viral.
But instead of plaudits from the pinko faithful, Bowman — who polls show is down by double digits against Latimer — met a chorus of jeering.
“Are you endorsed by Hamas?” mocked Arsen Ostrovsky in an X comment.
Bowman has long called for a ceasefire that would allow the terrorist group to remain in power in Gaza and has freely appeared with supporters who celebrated their Oct 7 massacre in Israel.
“I saw the latest poll and you’re down big. Seems like an emergency worthy of pulling a fire alarm,” added Gideon Dabi, an opera singer and voice teacher, in a post referencing Bowman’s infamous decision to pull a Capitol fire alarm during a government funding vote last year.
Many others in the online peanut gallery posted embarrassing security footage of the incident, or simply left images of an alarm.
Another commenter twisted the knife further, saying Bowman’s campaign had an “odor of desperation.”
Chaskel Bennett, a Jewish-issues activist in New York City, noted Bowman was endorsed by the liberal Daily News. “But you got the Squad and Hamas,” he added.
Bowman’s June 25 primary is one of the most closely watched contests in the country and the first time a “Squad” lawmaker will face voters since Hamas’ Oct 7. slaughter.
Though much of the online conversation has been dominated by his anti-Israel positions, the race is expected to turn on more local issues. Bowman’s vote against the Biden infrastructure bill has been a consistent talking point from Team Latimer.
