Do pardon us if you’re a skeptic, a Yankees hater, a Mets lifer, or if you’re worried we’ll jinx Anthony Volpe’s rise to stardom by our mere mention of him. While the Upper East Side’s own Volpe has technically been signed to the Yankees since 2019, the 21-year-old spent a few years kicking around the minor leagues before making his debut at Yankee Stadium on Opening Day 2023.
But even this early in his career, there are whispers: does this kid have it? As reported yesterday by the Post, Yankees’ infield coach Travis Chapman has been impressed with Volpe’s performance as shortstop so far: “I’ve seen him the last couple of years [in the minors] and I knew he had the tools and ability to be a big-league shortstop,’’ Chapman said. “I think he showed it in the minors and thus far here [with the Yankees].”
