From screaming Housewives to risqué confessions, Andy Cohen has seen a lot during his Bravo tenure. However, nothing left him quite as shook as when Reneé Rapp shamelessly referred to herself as “ageist” on Sunday night’s (Jan. 14) episode of Watch What Happens Live.
While stopping by The Clubhouse alongside Gizelle Bryant, the star of the Mean Girls musical movie was asked which Real Housewives of Potomac star she would be “besties with in real life.”
“There’s something about Karen [Huger] that’s so funny to me. She’s so funny. And I’m very ageist,” Rapp said, sending Cohen into a tailspin.
“You’re ageist? You don’t like older people?” he asked, before she doubled down on the comment.
Bryant was just as surprised by the confession, asking her younger counterpart if she’s “supposed to say that,” to which she bluntly responded, “No,” before cheekily looking to the camera and wishing Huger a “Happy 60th [Birthday].”
Meanwhile, Cohen — who was at a loss for words even after Rapp said she wasn’t ageist toward him — did away with the game as he and Bryant continued to grill the actor about her unhinged revelation.
“You just look down on older people? Or you just don’t care for them?” he asked, while Bryant added, “You don’t want them driving on the road?”
Rapp then clarified, “Yeah, I feel like the driving thing has got to go. I just feel like … I don’t know … I just was always the young one in situations and like Millennial women were always, like, coming for me. I was like, ‘Shut up.’”
When Cohen reminded her that she too will get older one day, she quickly fired back, “I fear.”
The clip has since gone viral on social media, where users were torn over what to think. While some felt the remark was “utterly bizarre,” others praised Rapp’s honesty.
“I think she just ruined her own career,” one wrote, while another added, “She came off so try hard and cringe.”
A third person speculated, “I’m afraid she’s going to flip what could be a great success if the pr team doesn’t reel it in quickly,” before someone else said, “She is slowly but surely talking her way out of a career.”
Others, however, were more understanding of Rapp’s position.
“OK this clip is actually hilarious lol,” one wrote, before another joked, “The hero we didn’t know we needed.”
Someone else added, “She’s hilarious. This kind of humor goes over heads,” while a fourth person defended Rapp by saying, “Not her fault she’s real.”
Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
