The Cincinnati Reds made a splash on Monday –– in one fan’s beer cup.

In the top of the first inning, the Rockies’ Ryan McMahon sent a pitch from Brandon Williamson foul and into the stands — where it landed in with a splash in a cup of beer in a holder on a seatback.

Monday wasn’t the first time this has happened at the Great American Ball Park.

In May 2022, a foul ball plopped right into a Reds fan’s beer and — in accordance with the unwritten rules of taking in a game — proceeded to chug it, with the ball still in the cup.

Cincinnati opened its three-game series with the Rockies and it isn’t just the fans that are having fun right now.

The home team, winners of a current MLB-high eight straight entering Monday night, got a boost from the return of Joey Votto.

The 39-year-old veteran first baseman missed 72 games after surgery on his left shoulder to repair his rotator cuff and biceps.

“I was just called up,” Votto said before Monday’s game. “I’m here to compete for a job. That’s my mentality. That’s my attitude. Everything in this game is earned. I’ve been hungry since the day I entered this league. Nothing has changed.

“Now, sometimes, you can sense you might need to guard your bowl. I’m down for the challenge for sure, but it’s always been that way.”

The Reds, a young team finding its footing in the NL Central, has caught Votto’s eye.

“I’m a Cincinnati Red,” he said. “I was watching a team that is chasing [an NL Central title]. This is what our goal is. One step at a time, of course. This is what we play for. As a Red, I see them tearing up the games. I’m excited for my guys. These are good dudes. They’re so easy to cheer for.

“I’m happy. These past two months have been great.”

For the Reds and their veteran first baseman, there’s plenty to raise a glass to — even one with a foul ball in it.
