A top Red Sox prospect has been suspended for the entire 2024 season.
Infielder Brainer Bonaci violated Minor League Baseball’s domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse policy and will miss this season, the Boston Globe reported Wednesday.
It’s not clear what led to the suspension.
Bonaci was first placed on administrative leave in August and went back to Venezuela, but he was then allowed to take part in the Arizona Fall League, per the Globe.
The 21-year-old played two games for the Glendale Desert Dogs in the AFL before being placed on the restricted list in October by Major League Baseball, the outlet reported then.
Bonaci, ranked as the No. 12 Red Sox prospect by MLB Pipeline, started last season with High-A Greenville before getting promoted to Double-A Portland, hitting .279/.361/.426 in 16 games in the Eastern League.
He last played in a doubleheader in an Aug. 27 and then missed the rest of the season after he was put on leave.

He’s hit .272/.368/.409 across 297 minor league games.
