Rebecca Lobo thinks it might be in the Indiana Fever’s best interest to consider resting Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell this weekend.
Lobo, the lead WNBA analyst for ESPN and one of the greatest women’s basketball players of all time, broached the idea in a post on X as the Fever are slated to play the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday and the defending-champion Las Vegas Aces on Saturday.
“Curious if the @IndianaFever will rest @CaitlinClark22 (31 mg) and @Kelz_Hoop
(ankle) against the Aces tomorrow,” Lobo wrote.
“It will be Indy’s 3rd road game in 4 days and the 7th game in 12 days. Would stink for the CC fans in Vegas but might be the smart move for player health and safety.”
The Fever have started 0-5 and would likely be double-digit underdogs against the Aces even at full strength.
As Lobo alluded, fans who paid a mint for tickets to watch Clark in Las Vegas would be devastated if she rests.
The way the WNBA is structured for rookies entering the league from college basketball is way different than what we see with NBA and NFL players, where the professional and college seasons run effectively at the same time.
Clark just completed a full college season that went all the way to the championship game against South Carolina and barely a month later was competing in the WNBA season opener against the Sun.

Compound that with how much attention she is receiving and she must be exhausted.
Nevertheless, Clark is such an individual attraction that healthy rest would surely come under a microscope and it would feel like the Fever are ducking the best competition.
In response to Lobo’s suggestion, Jason Whitlock, a host at the Blaze, posted on X, “Load management has come to the WNBA 5 games into the season. Amazing.”
The Fever’s game against the Aces on Saturday airs on NBA TV.
