Real Time With Bill Maher is set to return this week now that the writers strike is officially over.

Bill Maher wasted no time at all to announce the show’s return after the strike officially ended on Tuesday (Sept. 26) evening. “My writers and Real Time are back! See you Friday Night!” he tweeted.

This will be the first late night show to resume following the writers strike. Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, and others, are expected to return in October.

The late night host initially intended to bring the show back on Sept. 22 “sans writers or writing,” meaning the new episodes would only include the panel discussion between Maher and his guests. But he was widely criticized for his “disappointing” decision, and the WGA vowed to picket the show if it were to actually return.

He changed his mind just days later, promising to delay to season premiere “for now” after the WGA and the studios resumed negotiations.

“My decision to return to work was made when it seemed nothing was happening and there was no end in sight to this strike,” he wrote on X. “Now that both sides have agreed to go back to the negotiating table I’m going to delay the return of Real Time, for now, and hope they can finally get this done.”

Now, the WGA has its deal. The strike is officially over, but the agreement will soon be sent to the guild members to vote on its ratification.

And that’s not the only talk show planning its return to air now that the strike is over. Deadline reports The Drew Barrymore Show, The Talk, and The Jennifer Hudson Show are all planning October premieres.

Drew Barrymore’s decision to cancel her show’s premiere “until the strike is over” ultimately caused a domino effect across talk shows. Some have even speculated that the backlash they received over returning to air may have expedited the negotiations.

It looks like the next few weeks will be an interesting time in talk television.

Real Time With Bill Maher will return on Sept. 29.
