Mary Cosby opened up about her son, Robert Cosby Jr., days after his latest arrest.

“Robert is doing the best he can do,” Mary said when she stopped by Decider’s studio earlier this week.

Per a police report obtained by TMZ, Robert was arrested last Saturday (Sept. 6) for “failure to stop at the command of law enforcement, criminal trespassing, assault, and three alleged violations of a court order.” Local police reportedly responded to a domestic violence call after Robert Jr. allegedly tried to break into his father-in-law’s house through a dog door and allegedly assaulted someone on the front lawn.

The report states that he didn’t get on the ground when the responding officer commanded him to do so, and when he eventually complied, he was taken into custody, with bail set at $5,000.

This isn’t the first time Robert has been in trouble with the law. He previously pled guilty to a 2022 DUI charge, and in 2024, he was forced to enter rehab after testing positive for “cocaine, Fentanyl, and THC.” In a Season 5 episode of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Robert Jr. shared his struggles with drugs and suicidal ideation during a candid conversation with his mother.

When we spoke to Mary days after her son’s latest arrest (before the news had been broken), she hinted that his mind still isn’t made up regarding his sobriety.

“It’s his journey. I can’t make his mind up for him,” she said. “I can’t walk him through it. He has to do it himself. That’s why I say he’s doing the best he can. He’s trying, and that’s all I can ask for him.”

“I feel like it gets worse before it gets better,” she continued. “It’s his journey, and I think he’s doing excellent for his journey. [There are] hurdles that he has to still climb and [it’s] just making up your mind. Just having a made-up mind. I feel like that is the sole purpose. If your mind is made up, there’s nothing you can’t do. I feel like if his mind’s not made up and he still enjoys it and he’s still thinking it’s OK, then there’s no growth.”

She added, “He’s doing the best he can. He says, ‘Mom, my mind’s made up.’ And I’m like, ‘Well, it doesn’t look like it.’ I have to see it, too. Not just hear it. So we’re kind of in that phase. But he’s doing good, I can’t complain.”
