Alan Ritchson is teasing his possible future in the DC universe – but it might not look how fans expected.
The Reacher star addressed the rumors that DC head James Gunn wanted him to play Batman in a new interview with Variety. But the actor clarified that the role may not be in the cards for him.
“Well, it’s not rumor that James Gunn is a fan. He said it himself. And am I a fan of James Gunn? Absolutely,” Ritchson said. “I don’t want to mislead people. Words have been exchanged about Batman.”
He continued, “But I strongly don’t think that Batman is in my future. I do think there is something in my future with DC. And I would like that to remain true.”
Ritchson has an extensive past playing superheroes. He previously appeared in the DC series Titans as Hank Hall and as Aquaman in Smallville. He also admitted that he once lost the part of Thor because he didn’t take the audition “seriously.”
As of now, Gunn has a robust slate of films coming down the pipeline, including a sequel to Robert Pattinson‘s The Batman which is slated to hit theaters Oct. 3.

But Gunn announced DC Studios will produce two Batman movies; one being Pattinson’s, the other being established in Gunn’s DCU.
The new Batman is expected to debut in The Brave and the Bold, which is described as a father-son story about Batman and Robin. The Flash director Andy Muscietti is on board to direct.
But it looks like there is still hope yet for Ritchson to join the DC universe.
Gunn recently teased that there may still be an opportunity for the Reacher star.
“I am a big Alan Ritchson fan, both as an actor and as a guy,” he said during a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “Let’s just wait to see what happens.”
