Leave it to Ray Romano to boldly call out up-and-coming actor (and his Somewhere in Queens co-star) Jacob Ward on this morning’s episode of The View.

The duo joined Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin at the Hot Topics table, where they discussed the upcoming movie, which was written, directed and stars Romano.

As for what the Everybody Loves Raymond star saw in Ward — who was working as a Postmates deliveryman when he landed the Somewhere in Queens role — he revealed that he was on a “short list” of actors who could both play the part and play basketball.

“The role is an introverted, quiet kid. He doesn’t have a lot of lines. But we need to feel it,” Romano said. “He was on a short list. We had about nine or 10 guys that fit that part and then we had to see if they could play basketball. And really none of them could. But he was at the top of our list.”

Aside from saying they “loved this quality that he brought,” Romano pointed out that the character required someone who had “never had a girlfriend before in his life.”

The comedian then turned to Ward — a handsome, chiseled-faced actor — and joked, “This is not a virgin,” which he responded to with a bashful shrug.

“Grandma’s here!” Griffin quipped, while Hostin exclaimed, “Uh oh! I hope your family knows!”

In order to combat his attractive aesthetic, Romano said, “We gave him the haircut of a virgin, is what we did.”

Somewhere in Queens follows a tight-knit Italian family whose teenage son Sticks (Ward) is on the path to getting a basketball scholarship. However, after his girlfriend breaks his heart and threatens to derail his plan, his father Leo (Romano) goes to great lengths to get him back on track.

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC. Somewhere in Queen premieres in theaters Friday, April 21.
