Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins hasn’t been shy about expressing his frustrations over his contract situation.
Dobbins is in the final year of his rookie contract and did not participate in mandatory minicamp this week in Baltimore.
He was at the team’s facility but would not say if he was dealing with an injury or not.
And it appeared his absence was a bit of a surprise to head coach John Harbaugh, who told reporters Thursday that he “expected J.K. to practice but it just wasn’t in the cards apparently.”
Dobbins has been cryptic about what the future holds for him in Baltimore.
Earlier this month, he had tweeted that he was in Baltimore “till I’m gone,” and then, in a different tweet that he was later deleted, he wrote, “Idk tho sadly,” according to the Baltimore Banner.
Dobbins was tightlipped when he sat down with the CBS News affiliate WJZ-TV in Baltimore.
“So, the thing I can say is — I would love to be a Baltimore Raven for the rest of my career,” Dobbins. “I would love to because I love the city, I love the people. It feels like family here. It feels like my second home. And I hope that happens.”
The Ravens running back is slated to make $1.391 million this upcoming season.
On Thursday, he addressed what it has been like dealing with the “business side” of football.
“The business side is very hard. It’s very different,” Dobbins said. “You saw with Lamar [Jackson] … It’s never just roses and daisies. It can be hard at times and it’s business though.”
The Ravens expect Dobbins to be ready for training camp when it opens in July, though they did make an effort to get him on the field this week during minicamp.
“As I told him [Wednesday], ‘I’m excited. Give me something. Run a swing route. I don’t care. Just jog down the field. Do something,'” Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken said, according to ESPN.
“We’d love for him to be out here. Obviously, he’s not ready to go. But we’re excited, and I know he’ll be ready when he’s out there.
“But we certainly are better with him out there.”
Dobbins has been hampered by injuries since he was drafted 55th overall by the Ravens in 2020.
He had 805 yards and nine touchdowns in his rookie season but suffered a torn ACL in the final preseason game in 2021, which cost him that entire season.
Dobbins suffered another knee injury last year that forced him to miss time, but he finished with 520 yards on the ground with three touchdowns.
