The unofficial New York mascot now has its own cheerleaders.
A group of New Yorkers prove that even vermin get their day in the sun after cheering on large rodent that was scurrying about in broad daylight near Washington Square Park.
A clip of the hantavirus vector’s hype squad currently boasts 1.4 million views on TikTok.
“It don’t get any more NY than this,” reads the caption to the clip, which was uploaded by @Synthefire.
The clip starts off like a typical New York scene with a fat rat chilling in the middle of the park like a squirrel as commuters swirl around it.
All of a sudden, performers at a DJ booth decide to serenade the plague purveyor by chanting “ratatouille” in unison in an apparent homage to Pixar’s 2007 rats-to-riches flick about a culinarily-inclined rodent.
They cheer with such vehemence that it seems as if Splinter is going to start free-styling or doing head spins at any second.
At one point, one of the impromptu hype women walks up and starts brazenly dancing right in front of the seemingly bewildered critter.
Then, apparently thrilled with the recognition, Templeton makes a bee-line right for its cheering section as the clip ends. Pizza Rat, eat your heart out.

The varmint’s cheering squad made quite the impression on TikTok with one impressed gawker writing, “Hyping the rat is so on brand for nyc.”
Another exclaimed, “Not even rats can get some peace in this damn city.”
“HIS NAME IS REMY! PUT SOME RESPECK ON HIS NAME,” joked a third, referencing the protagonist from the aforementioned Pixar film.
Another social media comedian wrote, “Whenever someone’s asks ‘What’s it like being born in NY?’ Imma just send them this clip.”
Interestingly, while New York City may be one of the world’s premiere rat-tropolises, the rodent activity has seemingly been on the decline from years prior.
A report in mid-June found that rat-related complaints to 311 were down 26% compared to the same time last year, according to Mayor Eric Adams and Department of Sanitation Commissioner Jessica Tisch.
They credit recent rules that ban businesses and homeowners from putting out trash before 8 p.m.
