Offseason changes for the Rangers extend beyond just the coaching staff.
The Rangers have dismissed head athletic trainer Jim Ramsay, The Post confirmed on Friday.
Ramsay had been the head trainer for the past seven years and with the franchise for 29 seasons.
The Athletic first reported of Ramsay’s release, which comes just 18 days after the Rangers were eliminated from the playoffs and 13 days after the organization parted ways with head coach Gerard Gallant.
After making his way up from an assistant to head athletic trainer of the Jets through five seasons in Winnipeg, Ramsay came to New York ahead of the 1994-95 campaign.
He took on the title of Director of Sports Medicine in 2016-17 as well.
The Rangers have been very fortunate when it has come to injuries over the last few seasons.
Players have sung Ramsay’s praises throughout the years, often lauding the 58-year-old for his help during injury stints.
Even Patrick Kane went out of his way to give credit to the Rangers training staff – naming Ramsay specifically – for their help while he labored with a lower-body injury during his brief tenure in New York.
“I commend the training staff and Jim Ramsay for getting me where I felt as good as I possibly could so when the game started I could just think about hockey and playing,” Kane said at the end of the season. “But before, it’s just a lot of maintenance and thinking about how you’re going to get yourself to feel the best as possible to play.”
It is unclear why the Rangers have decided to go in a different direction than Ramsay.
The Rangers will now have to hire a new athletic trainer, in addition to a new head coach and assistants, this offseason.
