NextImg:Rangers say day off was ‘really good for everybody’

The Rangers returned to the ice Wednesday afternoon for practice after taking the day off Tuesday.

“It’s playoffs, everyone works hard every single game, every single shift,” Artemi Panarin told The Post at MSG Training Center. “It’s always nice to have one day off.”

Full days off are hard to come by in the playoffs, but the two days between Games 4 and 5 of this first-round series against the Devils couldn’t have come at a better time for the Rangers.

It was an opportunity to take some time away from the game, as well as reset their team psyche ahead of a crucial contest Thursday at Prudential Center, where the Rangers will either depart with a looming opportunity to close out the series or the possibility of their season ending in Game 6 Saturday at Madison Square Garden.

“I think it’s good,” Rangers head coach Gerard Gallant said of the two days between games. “I think it’s good for all teams actually. The middle of a series and it’s been a battle, you play four games. I think that day off was really good for everybody. Today, I’m sure they had the same thing. “They probably had a real good practice, too, and you get ready for a game [Thursday] night. I’m guessing [Thursday night] will be a real good hockey game.”

The Rangers treated Wednesday like a normal practice day, in which they worked on everything from the power play to odd-man rushes.

Gallant stayed true to his word when he said he had no plans of changing the personnel on the two power-play units, but the team practiced in a different starting alignment on Wednesday.

Patrick Kane was in the bumper spot, while Mika Zibanejad and Panarin were on the wings, which is where they’ve primarily been since Panarin joined the Rangers before the trade deadline.

Chris Kreider and Adam Fox were in their usual positions, at the net front and the top of the zone, respectively.

Gallant has referred to Zibanejad’s use on the power play to “a bit of a rover type,” which essentially means he doesn’t have a set position and can roam.

Zibanejad has had tremendous success in the left faceoff circle off his one-timers, so it makes sense for that to be his starting point.

After swapping Zibanejad and Vincent Trocheck in the middle of Game 4, Gallant had his players practice the way the Rangers have started each of the four games this series.

Zibanejad was back between Kreider and Kane, while Trocheck centered Panarin and Vladimir Tarasenko.
