There was no indication from the NHL that Rangers rookie Matt Rempe will face supplemental discipline after getting ejected in the opening minutes of Thursday’s win over the Devils.
The 6-foot-8 winger was assessed a match penalty for a hit to the head on Devils forward Nathan Bastian 2:25 into the Rangers’ 5-1 victory in Newark, but the league did not even announce that Rempe will be subjected to a hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.

Rangers coach Peter Laviolette said following the game that Rempe is “just a big man,” and that the rookie “never lifted his arm” when colliding with Bastian.
The New Jersey forward returned to the game after the hit, before departing following a second-period hit by and fight with Rangers captain Jacob Trouba.
Bastian was placed on injured reserve Friday.

“Everything is down. There’s nothing that’s up,” Laviolette said of the Rempe hit. “I’m glad the player came back and played and was not hurt from that.”
Rangers fans took over Prudential Center late in Thursday’s 5-1 win over the Devils, which Laviolette has noticed has not been an uncommon occurrence in some road arenas during his first season with the team.
“The fans have been awesome, going back to the outdoor game [against the Islanders at MetLife Stadium], where it seemed like we had the majority of the fans in the building. They were outstanding,” Laviolette said. “Then, we go to road games, and you look up and there’s just a sea of blue out there.
“These are passionate, loyal fans. … And what I’ve learned is they’re not new fans either, man. This has been handed down from generation to generation. They love the New York Rangers and to show up on the road like this and fill an opposing building, that’s just awesome.”
Forward Brennan Othmann, who warmed up but didn’t dress for Thursday’s game, was sent back to AHL Hartford.
