NextImg:Rangers get No. 12 pick in 2025 NHL Draft to set up massive Chris Drury decision

Chris Drury and the Rangers are on the clock.

Not, though, for the No. 1 pick in the upcoming June draft after the Blueshirts dropped to No. 12 in the order following Monday night’s lottery in which the Islanders jumped up to grab the prized selection that is expected to become OHL defenseman Matthew Schaefer.

Rather, the GM and the hierarchy are facing a June 25 deadline that is seven weeks away to declare whether the Blueshirts will keep this No. 12 pick or send it to the Penguins to complete the J.T. Miller trade in which the first-rounder sent to Vancouver in the deal — almost immediately moved to Pittsburgh in a deal involving Marcus Pettersson — was top-13 protected.

If Drury and the hierarchy keep this pick, the Penguins will own the Rangers’ unprotected first-round selection in the 2026 draft that is advertised as having more high-end quality at the top.
