Mark Davis received a warm welcome from Raiders fans when he walked on the field before Sunday’s game against the Giants at Allegiant Stadium.
The Raiders owner was greeted with “Thank you” chants and applause from Las Vegas faithful after he cleaned house with multiple firings, including head coach Josh McDaniels on Tuesday night, according to a video posted by X user Logan Reever of Las Vegas’ 8 News Now.
This reception came just four weeks after Davis engaged in a shouting match with fans that called for him to fire McDaniels in Week 4, when the Raiders lost to the Chargers, 24-17, in Los Angeles to fall to 1-3.
At the time, Davis fired back at the heckling fans, telling them to “smarten up,” while he remained seated in a private suite at SoFi Stadium.
But now that there wish has been granted fans were whistling a much different tune Sunday, when the Raiders secured their first win in the post-McDaniels era under interim head coach Antonio Pierce.
Davis also fired general manager Dave Ziegler and offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi in addition to McDaniels on Tuesday.
Champ Kelly will serve as interim GM, and quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree was promoted to offensive coordinator and play-caller.
Davis’ firing spree came after two embarrassing losses to the Bears and Lions.
Players were frustrated, including All-Pro wideout Davante Adams, who aired his grievances to the media.
The last straw was a team meeting last Thursday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who reported that players and coaches laid into McDaniels.
That meeting, and a few separate conversations with players including Adams, defensive end Maxx Crosby and running back Josh Jacobs, reportedly had McDaniels walking around like a shell of himself.
Players were ecstatic when Pierce was named interim head coach, and it was “the happiest the locker room ever,” according to Vic Tafur of The Athletic.
“We’re not walking on eggshells everywhere,” wide receiver Hunter Renfrow said.
Right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor, who played with McDaniels in New England, explained that the vibe “wasn’t good” when McDaniels was head coach.
“A lot of us were trying to create energy on the sideline, and I’m sure fans could see it,” he said.
The Raiders (4-5) host the Jets on Nov. 12 for “Sunday Night Football.”
