Abbott Elementary creator and star Quinta Brunson is known for her appreciation of comedies that came before her. In many of her interviews, she references her love of old sitcoms like Friends, Martin and Cheers, so when she sat down with Jennifer Aniston for an interview in Variety, she wasn’t shy about offering praise to the actress, whom Brunson calls her “comedy queen.”
In the interview, Brunson admitted to Aniston that she drew inspiration for her character Janine’s relationship with her colleague Gregory (Tyler James Williams) from Friends‘ Ross and Rachel romance. Brunson also shared that she’s a fan of all of Aniston’s work, citing the 2003 film Bruce Almighty — which co-starred Aniston alongside Jim Carrey and Abbott‘s Lisa Ann Walter — as an all-time favorite.
As Brunson discussed the cast of Abbott, she mentioned Walter to Aniston, saying, “Lisa Ann Walter, who you’ve worked with in Bruce Almighty. That was my depression movie, by the way, when I was really depressed and I couldn’t change the channel because I was so depressed.”
Brunson added, “I just had a DVD of Bruce Almighty that I watched on repeat while I smoked out of my bong.”

Aniston then quipped, “I’ve just been shoved down your throat for really a long time.” Or, really, inhaled.
The admiration between the two women was mutual, and as the interview ended, Aniston suggested that she and Brunson collaborate. “While we’re here,” Aniston told Brunson, “I’m going to put my hat in the ring like all the other actors do, because if Bradley Cooper can do it… If you find a moment on Abbott that you can see for this one, I’d love to come play with you.”
