In a surprising twist to the glamorous lifestyle often associated with NFL quarterbacks, San Francisco 49ers’ starting quarterback Brock Purdy has revealed he splits the rent with a roommate.

Purdy made this revelation in an interview with “Today,” confirming that he shares San Francisco’s infamously lofty living expenses with a teammate: his offensive lineman Nick Zakelj.

Purdy, 24, who also drives a humble Toyota Sequoia, explained, “So he and I are still splitting rent. Other than that, it’s pretty simple.”

Many 20-somethings tend to dread splitting their space with others — but these two seem to have some fun at home when they’re off the field.

“We’ve started to grill out a little more,” Zakelj reportedly shared. “We switch off. He’s got the upper hand on me right now. But we just hang out and watch movies here and there when we have free time from football.”

Despite Purdy’s $870,000 salary in his second season with the Super Bowl-bound 49ers, his decision to share living expenses is raising eyebrows, especially considering he could afford his own place.

However, living in San Francisco, which has the third-highest cost of living in the United States after Manhattan and Honolulu, might be influencing Purdy’s budget-conscious choices.

“People joke about having the starting quarterback as your roommate,” Zakelj said. “I think it’s funny from the outside.”

Purdy recently got engaged to Jenna Brandt over the summer, so it’s likely that his roommate situation will come to an end soon.

The quarterback, who was the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, seems focused on saving money in the early stages of his career.

Despite not having the same financial standing as some of his fellow draftees, Purdy has displayed impressive skills on the field.

In four games this season, he boasts a 72.3% completion rate, 1,019 passing yards and five touchdowns, along with two rushing scores.

Purdy faces one of his toughest tests on Feb. 11, when the 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
