Priscilla Presley admitted that she had her doubts about her late daughter’s Lisa Marie Presley‘s relationship with the late Michael Jackson.

Priscilla, whose memoir Softly, as I Leave You: Life After Elvis was released on Tuesday (Sept. 23), joined The View on Wednesday to discuss some of the biggest revelations from the new book.

Sunny Hostin told Priscilla that she doesn’t “hold back” in her new book, citing her reflections on her and Elvis Presley‘s daughter dating and then eventually marrying Jackson. The two got married in 1994 and got divorced two years layer, per People.

“You were not a big fan of that arrangement, you write,” Hostin added. “What was it about that that just didn’t sit right with you?”

Priscilla explained that Jackson “loved being around entertainers,” noting that he was an entertainer, himself.

“He never really went with anybody before,” she continued. “I mean, he had friends, close friends, girlfriends… but not in a marriage in any way. Michael loved to be out in public, and I recognized that.”

Priscilla said she felt that Lisa, who passed away at age 54 in January 2023, “was just coming out in the public eye” when she was dating Michael and she “felt in a way that he was using her.”

Joy Behar asked, “Using her in what way?”

Priscilla clarified, “Publicity-wise. He’s always been a big fan of Elvis’s. Always.”

Behar added, “Well, who wasn’t?”

Priscilla replied, “Yes, but Michael really, really was. And so I had a lot of doubts because of how much he even told her, ‘Oh my gosh, your dad. I mean, he was great. He’s my idol.’ And I just felt like marrying Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley’s daughter… I didn’t really like the idea.”

Hostin asked Priscilla, who was married to Elvis for six years, “Do you think you viewed it through the lens of your relationship with Elvis in terms of being with this larger-than-life superstar and what that would do to your daughter?”

However, Priscilla did not think that was the case, saying that Lisa Marie “was used to her father being very, very famous and been around to him.”

“I brought her to all his shows in Las Vegas and a couple of other places that he appeared,” she shared. “So no, I think she was adapted to fame.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
