Another royal wedding may be on the horizon.
Prince Christian of Denmark sparked engagement rumors after recently introducing his girlfriend, Princess Maria Chiara di Borbone, to his grandmother Queen Margrethe.
The 17-year-old prince and 18-year-old princess reportedly joined the monarch for tea at their family home sometime in June, according to Woman’s Day.
Royal insiders told the outlet that while Chiara was nervous, the meeting seemed to have gone well for the young couple.
“Christian knew they’d hit it off and was thrilled that she invited them to tea. It’s an informal stamp of approval for Chiara because Margrethe doesn’t take tea with just anyone,” the insider alleged.
“There’s no doubt an engagement announcement is on the horizon and the palace is preparing accordingly,” they continued.
Chiara was reportedly “in awe of the Queen” and had “been practicing her curtsies for months” ahead of the big meeting — which seemingly paid off.
“She did very well and made a good impression on Queen Margrethe,” an insider noted.
Sources say that the 83-year-old queen, who has reigned as Denmark’s monarch for over 50 years, takes their lineage “very seriously” and believes it is her “duty to invest time in Christian’s happiness and his choice of partner.”
Yet the meeting was just as important to Princess Mary and her eldest son, who is reportedly smitten with the Italian beauty.
“Christian’s relieved – and so is his mum, Princess Mary, who has relied on her mother-in-law’s advice on what it takes to be a Queen from day one.”
Yet while Princess Mary and Prince Frederik “think [Chiara’s] wonderful and brings out the best in their son,” they are “worried about their ages.”
”Mary wants them both to experience the world before buckling down to a very serious partnership,” insiders told the outlet.

Chiara is the youngest daughter of Prince Carlo, Duke of Castro, who is godfather to Christian’s little sister Josephine. Given their families’ close relationship, the pair have known each other since they were children.
While it’s unclear when the pair decided to move their relationship out of the friend zone, Chiara recently gushed about their “beautiful” relationship to the Danish press, saying they “have a lot of fun together.”
Yet if the pair do choose to get married, the Italian princess might have to slow down her luxurious lifestyle given the fact that Christian recently decided to forgo his royal salary to focus on his education.
The prince announced in June that he will not be accepting his royal allowance upon his 18th birthday — on October 15 — and chose to delay becoming a full-time royal until he turns 21.
While he also intended to be taking a step back from the public eye, a royal wedding will surely thrust him back into the spotlight.
