In the age-old battle of weighing production against potential, the Giants could choose to believe that a breakout still is near for 2023 third-round pick Jalin Hyatt.

But that would require ignoring that Montrell Washington, Beaux Collins and Gunner Olszewski – plus maybe a few other depth receivers – made more plays than Hyatt this summer entering Thursday’s preseason finale against the Patriots. He also missed about a week with an injury before returning to play against the Jets.

“We had him on a rep count for the last game and he did what he needed to do: Ran a couple good routes, had a play (21-yard catch from the two-yard line) backed up,” head coach Brian Daboll said. “This (game) will be important for a lot of guys.”

Does that mean that Hyatt is not locked into the No. 4 receiver spot, as was projected all offseason?
