NextImg:PR company working with Twitch streamer Kai Cenat apologizes for Union Square riot: ‘Deeply disheartened’

The public relations company whose giveaway event with a social media influencer sparked a riot in Union Square has apologized.

Twitch star Kai Cenat, didn’t have a permit before putting out word to his 20 million followers that he’d be giving away PS5 video game consoles in the famed Manhattan spot, prompting thousands to show up and wreak havoc.

The chaotic incident Friday left seven hurt and 66 people arrested.

In a Saturday statement that makes no mention of Cenat, AMP Group claimed the company had organized giveaway events before and “never experienced anything at the scale of what took place yesterday.”

“Yesterday members of AMP hoped to create a positive experience for fans and give back as a show of appreciation for their support,” AMP Vice President Erica Tucker said in the statement. “We recognize that our audience and influence are growing, and with that comes greater responsibility. We are deeply disheartened by the outbreak of disorderly conduct that affected innocent people and businesses, and do not condone that behavior.

“We apologize to all of those impacted. We are fully cooperating with local authorities,” she said.

The Los Angeles-based company describes itself as a “boutique” public relations firm, and has repped Cenat in the past.

Cenat was charged with inciting to riot and unlawful assembly before being released on a desk appearance ticket.
