NextImg:Pope Leo has epic response to Cubs fan trolling him in crowd

The Pope got one Cubs fan good.

During an appearance at the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV, a diehard White Sox fan, spent a moment taking a witty jab at his team’s crosstown rival, as shown in a clip from Vatican Media on Wednesday.

As he drove through the crowd, someone yelled out, “Go Cubs!”

With a smirk on his face, Pope Leo torched the playful heckler, saying, “Han perdido! They lost!”

The Cubs, of course, fell to the Brewers during their National League Division Series after a hard-fought five games.

The Pope’s White Sox didn’t have much to brag about in 2025, though.

The Southsiders finished 60-102, losing 100-plus games for the third straight season.

The clip is the latest showing of Pope Leo’s, born Robert Prevost, massive White Sox fandom.

In September, Prevost credited growing up in a split Chicago household of Cubs and White Sox fans for preparing him for navigating complicated global diplomacy issues during a celebration of his 70th birthday.

Earlier over the summer, Pope Leo was seen mouthing, “White Sox,” during a ride in the Popemobile in Vatican City as the crowd chanted the team’s name.

Prevost attended the 2005 World Series opener against Houston in Chicago, watching the game from Section 140, Row 19, Seat 2 as the White Sox beat the Astros 5-3 on their way to a four-game sweep and their first title since 1917.

During a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the championship run, Pope Leo had a signed jersey delivered to former Chicago White Sox great Paul Konerko.

After he was elected the first American pope, there were questions as to where his baseball fandom landed.

Questions grew loud enough that his brother cleared the air publicly.

“He was never ever a Cubs fan, so I don’t know where that came from,” John Prevost told local Chicago station WGN TV. “He was always a Sox fan. Our mother was a Cubs fan. I don’t know, maybe that clued in there and our dad was a Cardinals fan, so I don’t know where all that came from.

“And all the aunts, our mom’s family was from the north side, so that’s why they were Cubs fans.”
