Thunder guard Josh Giddey is reportedly the subject of a police investigation following social media allegations that he had an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl.
The Newport (Calif.) police department is investigating the matter “to see if there is any validity to the claims and if any laws were broken,” TMZ reported Tuesday, citing law enforcement sources.
The Newport police department did not immediately return a phone call from The Post seeking confirmation of the report.
The NBA announced last week that it was investigating the matter.
The age of consent in California is 18.
Giddey has continued to play for the Thunder in the meantime.
He did not expound much when asked about the situation.
“I understand the question obviously, but no further comment right now,” Giddey told reporters last week. “I get the question guys, I completely understand you want to know about it, but just for right now, I don’t have anything to say.”
Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault was equally evasive.
“Personal matter,” Daigneault said. “I have no comment on that and that will be my answer on anything related.”
Giddey, the sixth overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, is averaging 12.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game this season.
