NextImg:PGA Tour-LIV Golf merger news ruined Justin Thomas’ practice round

Justin Thomas found it hard to miss.

The 30-year-old former World No. 1 golfer got wind of the PGA Tour’s merger with LIV Golf on Tuesday, which resulted in a host of news breaks around the world.

“Was having quite the nice practice session this morning too,” Thomas tweeted, alongside a gif of a phone frantically receiving alerts.

He was one of several golfers who had opted not to jump from the PGA to the Saudi-backed rebel tour who were taken aback by the 10 a.m. announcement — which flew in the face of two-plus years of nose-thumbing from the PGA Tour and its stars.

Making matters worse, many of the PGA golfers found out the news the same way everyone else: via Twitter.

“Nothing like finding out through Twitter that we’re merging with a tour that we said we’d never do that with,” Mackenzie Hughes tweeted.

“Love finding out info on twitter. This is amazing. Y’all should be ashamed and have a lot of questions to answer,” Wesley Bryan tweeted in response to the PGA’s official announcement. “I feel betrayed, and will not not be able to trust anyone within the corporate structure of the PGA TOUR for a very long time.”

That the move came a day after U.S. Open qualifying was not lost on some.

“And everyone thought yesterday was the longest day in golf,” Collin Morikawa wrote.

There are still plenty of questions for the united tours to answer, especially for those with skin in the game.

Millions of dollars are at stake for players across the board, and many are clearly feeling angry — and in the case of Michael Kim — befuddled.

“The hell is going on?” he tweeted at 10:06 a.m., minutes after the news went out.
