Peloton instructor Jess King loves books that open her mind and teach her new things.

“As a queer Latina, an entertainer, an athlete and a life coach, I look for words that challenge me, affirm me and expand my understanding of self and the world,” she tells Page Six, adding that the books she loves “push boundaries, encourage transformation and remind me that we are always evolving.”

King says she’s channeling the things she learned from them on her wellness platform, On The Record, which is part of Kargo’s Multicultural Content Amplifier.

The website, which launched in January, is “a space for those looking to transform, break boundaries and embrace the parts of themselves that don’t fit neatly into a box, just like me,” the cycling coach tells us.

See below for the six “magic” books that shaped King in ways she never expected.

“This book is about momentum, trust and embracing the detours. Life isn’t about forcing doors open; it’s about recognizing when the lights turn green and having the courage to move forward. As someone who has had to reset and change course several times throughout my career, this book has been a reminder that even our setbacks are just green lights in disguise.”

"The Power of Intention" by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer

“This book has been a blueprint for how I approach movement, manifestation and energy. Whether I’m leading a class, setting a goal or navigating personal growth, I come back to this truth: What we focus on expands. Dyer teaches that we are always in co-creation with the universe, so why not choose with purpose?”

"Women Who Run with the Wolves" by Clarissa Pinkola Estés

“This is required reading for any woman reclaiming her power. It speaks to the wild, intuitive, unapologetic parts of us that the world tries to tame. As a Latina, a queer woman and someone who exists in high-energy, often hyper-visible spaces, I know how easy it is to disconnect from your inner knowing. This book brings you back home to yourself.”

"A Course in Miracles" by Helen Schucman

“This book is a spiritual deep dive. A shift from fear to love, from ego to truth. It’s not an easy read, but neither is unlearning old patterns. I return to this book whenever I need a reset, a perspective shift or a reminder that love is the most radical and powerful choice we can make. It’s a practice, and it’s one that continues to shape me.”

"Finding LatinX" by Paola Ramos

“As a Latina, I see myself in these stories — the complexity, the resilience, the beauty of being part of a culture that refuses to be boxed in. Ramos gives voice to the future of our community, and it’s powerful, necessary and deeply personal.”

"Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides

“Identity is fluid, and this book captures that in such a profound way. It’s about self-discovery, transformation and the ways we define ourselves beyond expectation or category. As someone who embraces evolution in every aspect of life, this book speaks to the power of becoming. It’s a reminder that we are never just one thing, and that’s what makes us extraordinary.”
