For three years, fans of HBO Max‘s Peacemaker have wondered what the intro dance for Season 2 would look like and what the new song would be. Classic rock? Pop? Jazz? Okay, probably not that last one but some fans were more than likely dreaming about it.
One person who was not excited for a new song and dance? Peacemaker star Steve Agee, the actor behind the role of John Economos. After Season 1’s massively viral dance to Wig Wam’s “Do Ya Wanna Taste It” set the bar high for Season 2’s opening credits — set to Foxy Shazam’s soon to be chart-topping “Oh Lord” — Agee said he was dreading the assignment.
“It’s my least favorite part. I appreciate it for what it is because it was definitely the most talked about aspect of the show coming into Season 2. It’s also been like the most anticipated part of the show,” the actor told DECIDER during a recent sit-down. “I’m just a big oaf who’s not coordinated and it’s exhausting to me. When we did that, we shot for one day on Season 1. It was exhausting. This was a two day shoot, like full days. It was definitely fun but it was tough.”
As for how much he despises it in comparison to some of the other days on set, Agee said he has a pretty good yardstick for measuring the difficulty of the sequence in comparison to some of his other hard days on set, even if it still doesn’t come close.
Agee added, “Those are the two toughest days. And I broke my ribs on another day — this was worse.”
On the flipside, Season 2 newcomer Sol Rodriguez said she could not have been more excited to be cast in the show, if for no other reason than the small chance she might get to take part in an opening dance number. Rodriguez — who plays A.R.G.U.S. Agent Sasha Bordeaux in the sophomore season of the DC Universe series — is an Argentinian born singer and actress, who has been dancing since she was five. She was ready.
“I saw the intro for the first season and I was like, ‘This is amazing.’ I mean, the idea of everyone being so serious and dancing and like being in character. I loved it, but I honestly didn’t think it was going to be part of it. I like to have low expectations so that I get surprised instead of having high expectations and then get disappointed. So I was like, ‘I’m not going to be in the intro and I’m going to accept it.'”
“When I found out, it was one of the best days of my life. I love dancing and being with the whole cast and being part of the iconic intro, because they told us “no emotion, be in character.” I had a blast. It was amazing,” she said of creator James Gunn‘s direction.
To find out what music they would pitch for Season 3’s opening number and what they are most looking forward to fans seeing in Season 2, check out DECIDER’s full interview below.
DECIDER: I have to start with the opening number. Steve, this is your second go-around, how was it doing this again? Sol, how did it feel to get to do this?
SOL RODRIGUEZ: I saw the intro for the first season and I was like, “This is amazing.” I mean, the idea of everyone being so serious and dancing and like being in character. I loved it, but I honestly didn’t think it was going to be part of it. I like to have low expectations so that I get surprised instead of having high expectations and then get disappointed. So I was like, “I’m not going to be in the intro and I’m going to accept it.” When I found out, it was one of the best days of my life. I love dancing and being with the whole cast and being part of the iconic intro, because they told us “no emotion, be in character.” I had a blast. It was amazing
STEVE AGEE: It’s my least favorite part. I appreciate it for what it is because it was definitely the most talked about aspect of the show coming into Season 2. It’s also been like the most anticipated part of the show. I’m just a big oaf who’s not coordinated and it’s exhausting to me. When we did that, we shot for one day on Season 1. It was exhausting. It sounds like prep for Season 3 should be underway, then. I’m wondering if you have a song you’d like to dance to for the show? I think because of a line in one of the early episodes, “We’re All In This Together” from High School Musical might be good.
RODRIGUEZ: Oh my God, I love it. That’s it, that’s mine. We’re All In This Together.”
AGEE: David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance.” Or “Fame.”

I want to ask since this filmed concurrently with Superman, how much did you guys know coming in? Were you kept informed given how it ties in?
AGEE: Very little.
RODRIGUEZ: I went to set, the Superman set, like twice to see Maria Gabriela [De Faria] and then to see James. And I saw David Corenswet in his suit, that was amazing. But no, we didn’t know much. Now we know that it [Peacemaker Season 2] happens a month after.
AGEE: Yeah, our show picks up a month after where Superman leaves off. I did not know a lot going into it. You know, he [Gunn] likes to keep these things pretty secretive. The bigger number of people that know stuff, the bigger chance of leaks. So that wasn’t going to happen. And it wasn’t a big overlap. They were finishing and we probably only had a few days sharing the same lot and soundstage. Tim [Meadows] and I went to the soundstage one day and met David Corenswet, and he was in full Superman gear. And Tim and I are both in our late 50s and we walked out of there grabbing each other around the arms going, “Oh my God, we just met Superman.” We were like little kids. It was mind blowing.
Well, speaking of, there’s a massive change from Peacemaker Season 1. The Justice League has now become the Justice Gang. What was your reaction to that shift and how does it make you feel to be part of this new era in the DC Universe?
RODRIGUEZ: I was very intimidated to come into Peacemaker and work with James, but it’s such a dream come true. And when we saw Superman because we saw an early screening with James, I was mind blown and excited to be part of this new era of DC. I was so proud of being able to be part of this, that I never thought it was going to be possible. It’s taken me ten years of hard work and I’m so happy. And I think that with James doing Superman, he was so kind and so beautiful and so lovely and so filled with human emotions and vulnerability. I love to be part of something like that. So I’m very proud to be part of this.
AGEE: As far as the Justice League turning into the Justice Gang, I think it kind of had to be done. Once he did Superman, you know, now you’re faced with, “Well, you had Season 1 of Peacemaker ending with the Justice League, so we kind of have to fix that.” I think logistically it just made more sense.

The first two episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 are now streaming. New episodes release Thursdays on HBO Max.
