It only took five episodes but Sol Rodriguez finally gets to show the world who her Peacemaker character, Sasha Bordeaux, really is.

**Spoilers ahead for Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 5**

In the most recent episode of James Gunn‘s HBO Max action-comedy, Rodriguez’s straight-laced and stone-faced character is revealed to have cyborg abilities, including a bionic eye with sniper-like accuracy, among other superhuman skills.

Rodriguez, who recently sat down with DECIDER to chat about the reveal in Episode 5, “Back to the Suture,” said that it was as much a surprise to her as it was for the fans, given that she “had to wait” until reading the episode to find out that her character was more than just an A.R.G.U.S. agent on a mission.

Rodriguez shared that even before she got the script for the newest episode, she pressed Gunn on what her character would look like, but that he was hesitant to give up any details. While she knew that her interpretation would be different than her DC Comics counterpart, she still felt that the story was heading in the direction of the cyborg shocker.

“Even though I didn’t know if her cyborg was going to be visible physically, I knew it was inside of me,” she shared. “It just gave me this sense of confidence and no fear, because if she’s a cyborg, she can basically take down anyone, right?”

In the comics, Sasha Bordeaux is a former Secret Service agent turned private bodyguard for Bruce Wayne, a.k.a. Batman. While wrongly imprisoned, her character is attacked and near death before Checkmate, a secret government agency, steps in and saves her life. Through a series of complicated events, Bordeaux comes to work for Maxwell Lord — played by Sean Gunn in the DC Universe — and is eventually turned into a cyborg while on a mission.

Rodriguez says that while nothing has been confirmed to her (that she can share, that is), it’s now her greatest hope and dream to get to play out her character’s comic storyline in one way or another. In fact, she explained that she’s already inquiring about a Sasha Bordeaux-Bruce Wayne arc in a future DC movie, whenever the caped crusader makes his canonical debut.

“Believe me, it’s such a dream. I pray every day that James [Gunn] puts me in a movie with Batman, or creates something where I get to be with Batman,” she shared. “I saw Lars [P. Winther], the executive producer [of Superman], the other day at a birthday party, and I was like, ‘Lars, I’m waiting next to the phone, please call me.’ He just laughed it off and walked away. Didn’t tell me one word, but I am praying that that happens. It would be such a dream.”

Check out DECIDER’s full interview with Rodriguez.

DECIDER: It’s been a couple of weeks since we last talked, and I mean, it’s just this has taken off. What has this been like for you?

SOL RODRIGUEZ: Oh, I’m so happy. I feel like it’s the first time that I do something where the fans are so involved. Every week they’re live tweeting and also also first time that I have James as director and creator, who is also so involved. We did a live a live tweeting, we watched the episode, all of us together, and we were Threading together, talking about every scene, about every moment. And I’ve never had that with a director who is so involved and cares so much about the fans. I feel like they reciprocate. And the fifth episode is such a fun one for me, too.

I was just rewatching Episode 5 and it’s a good episode for you – there’s a little reveal. What are you most excited for the fans to see in this one?

Coming into this, I don’t know if I would have like a metal arm or something in my skin. I didn’t know because I had just seen the comics. So then, reading the episodes, I wouldn’t read anything about it. I was like, “Okay, well, maybe it’s, you know, it’s just under the skin and it’s there and I know it and fans know it.” But when they read the fifth one and I saw I had a little moment there, I was so excited and I didn’t know what it was going to look like. So they did it in post and did sort of like a mechanical eye, right, that she has from her cyborg parts. So I was really excited.

Was there any kind of heads-up from James, like, “Hey, it’s going to come down the line, you’re not going to know for a few episodes?” Or was it really like you had to kind of just wait and feel it out?

I had to wait. I didn’t know anything. I think the second time that I met with him [James Gunn], I was like, “So I’m cutting my hair, right? Like, because I saw that she has short hair and, like, I’m ready. You tell me, I’ll cut it.” He’s like, “No, you’re not cutting your hair.” And I was like, “Oh, okay, great, thanks. I guess I would have cut it anyway if you wanted me to, but thank you. I love my hair.” He’s like, “It’s great long, don’t worry about it.” And I was like, “Okay.” So that was like the first hint I got of like, okay, she’s a different version. It’s the Peacemaker James Gunn DCU version that he wrote. And then I didn’t ask anything else about her arm. I was just waiting to see if one day they’d call me like, “Hey, we’re going to do, I don’t know, like some sort of latex thing.” And then I would have to find out. But no, nothing happened. So not until I read [Episode] 5 is when I found out she was going to have the eye reveal.

Finding out that she has these abilities, how did it change your approach to this character? Did it make you completely reevaluate how you’ve been playing her?

It didn’t. Because again, even though I didn’t know if her cyborg was going to be visible physically, I knew it was inside of me. And it just gave me this sense of confidence and no fear, because if she’s a cyborg, she can basically take down anyone, right? So it gave me that sense of confidence also to be able to be a leader to this group, this team that I have under my command under Frank Grillo’s character… it gave me that sense of confidence to be able to guide and lead this group of men, and for them to be a little bit intimidated of me knowing that, you know, I can kick their ass anytime.

Well, I know you’ve been asked about this a few times, but the Batman connection. Is there going to be something there with the Caped Crusader?

I would love that. Believe me, it’s such a dream. I pray every day that James [Gunn] puts me in a movie with Batman, or creates something where I get to be with Batman. I saw Lars [P. Winther] the executive producer, the other day at a birthday party and I was like, “Lars, I’m waiting next to the phone, please call me.” He just laughed it off and walked away. Didn’t tell me one word, but I am praying that that happens. It would be such a dream.

I mean at the very least, get you into the second Superman movie. We know that you and María Gabriela [de Faría] would love another team-up.

It would be amazing. We worked together 13 years ago in a Nickelodeon show, and we’re now in the same family DCU family? I would love to be the next Superman movie. I’m sorry, nothing yet. Cross your fingers.

We’ve left off on a cliffhanger. Where does the story and your arc go from here?

It’s wild. I mean, I think James said this on the carpet of the premiere of Peacemaker in New York, but the last three episodes feel like a movie. There is so much going on. I don’t want to say anything that I’m not supposed to — there’s a lot going on. I feel like one of the things for my character is that my loyalty is absolutely and definitely tested, and she will have to make some decisions and see where she lies and what aligns with her values within her career, her job, and what she believes in life. Like what aligns with her values in life. And I feel like the show is just, it’s so big. It does feel like a movie.

What’s something that you have done in this project that really made you feel good about the work you did here?

This episode already passed, I think it was the fourth or third episode where I get a big chunk of dialog and that to many people might not be a big deal. But English is my second language, so I was very nervous about it. Very nervous because I know my lines, I know what I have to say, but my tongue wants to say something different. So I was very proud that I was able to do the walk and talk. The one from the hospital to the van. When I introduced Judo Master [Nhut Lee], I’m the only one talking. Someone says something and I keep going and it’s very active. And we had a mark and we had a timing that we had to hit for us to arrive in the van and open the door and for Judo Master to make his grand entrance. And I’m just very proud that I was able to do it a million times without once making a mistake. I’m also very proud of a couple of scenes in the last episode that I have, that I feel like my character gets a couple of beautiful moments that hopefully touch the viewers and the fans.
