It’s a never dull day at The Drew Barrymore Show. 2023 may be the year of the celebrity break-up/divorce, but it appears that host Drew Barrymore may be here to turn the trend around after this morning’s episode, which featured a bizarre segment with actor and comedian Pauly Shore.
Barrymore sat down with the host of The Jam in the Van Show for an interview, which included a discussion of, among other things, his late mother (and Barrymore’s personal idol) Mitzi Shore, who co-founded The Comedy Store in Los Angeles.
Later, after Barrymore told Pauly that his name is “synonymous with joy,” they shifted the conversation to focus on Pauly’s love life.
“It’s weird because I’m not in a relationship now,” he said. “It’s very very difficult for me to have a girlfriend because it’s hard for me to let love in, because I’m scared to get hurt.”
Despite the conversation taking a hard turn to the very personal, Barrymore did not shy back from pursuing this thread, in classic Barrymore form, asking if he was married (he is not).
“So how do you take walls down and try?” Barrymore asked. (Perhaps unintentionally referencing her own iconic viral video of her taking down the walls of her own apartment?)
Barrymore asked what he was afraid of, and what the right person for him looked like. Pauly responded that he wanted someone that could be his best friend, a relationship that was more of a friendship. He then turned the conversation back to his late mother, sharing that Mitzi was not “not happy” when Barrymore married her ex-husband Tom Green, and that she should’ve married Pauly instead.
Pauly then stepped up onto the platform stage of the show’s set, and one could see where this was going. Pauly pulled out a ring in front of the audience right then and there, and proposed to the host, who asked if he was seriously proposing.

His answer: “Might as well, right?”
But before Barrymore could either accept or deny this fever dream of a proposal (and the huge rock that came with it), she delayed her answer, as it was time for the show to wrap up.
“You’ll have to stay tuned for the answer, and come back tomorrow!” She then hugged Pauly as the credits began to roll.
What do you think? Will Barrymore accept, and will this be the dawn of the Drewly era?
