NextImg:Paul Pierce blames DUI on ‘falling asleep’ in traffic

From “The Truth” to “old” and “tired.”

Paul Pierce chalked up his Tuesday arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence to him falling asleep behind the wheel since the 47-year-old needed some shut eye.

Pierce posted a photo showed traffic at a standstill along with his message, although he did not mention the allegations of him being under the influence.

“Imagine being stuck in stand still traffic for 45 mins and falling asleep ????????‍♂️ I took this picture that night because I never been in stand still traffic for this long,” Pierce posted Thursday to Threads. “I’m old, I’m tired, and I fell asleep ????????‍♂️I’m good y’all thanks for the love.”

Police arrested Pierce late Tuesday in California after they found him asleep at 10:30 p.m. inside his SUV on the 101 freeway, the California Highway Patrol said in a statement as relayed by NBC4.

Officers had attended to a multi-car crash that shut down lanes, but they reportedly noticed a Range Rover not moving after the lanes reopened.

They arrested Pierce on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, and Pierce’s case will be reviewed by the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office.

Pierce reportedly has since been cited and released from custody.

“When officers approached, they found the driver, later identified as Paul Pierce, asleep at the wheel,” the California Highway Patrol said in their statement, per NBC.

“Officers noted signs of alcohol impairment and conducted a DUI investigation.”

Pierce, a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, spent 19 seasons in the NBA, primarily starring for the Celtics from 1998-2013 before his ill-fated trade to the Nets.

The Pierce-Kevin Garnett-Deron Williams-Joe Johnson-Brook Lopez Nets are considered an all-time NBA failure, losing in five games in the second round of the playoffs before breaking apart.

Piece then headed to the Wizards before finishing his career with the Clippers.

He served as a host on FS1’s “Speak” before its July cancelation.
