NextImg:Patriots’ Jack Jones makes first public comments after airport firearm arrest

Jack Jones has officially made his first public comments since his arrest in June at Boston’s Logan Airport, but he is deferring all conversation to his lawyer about the events of that day.

“I can’t answer that question. That’s a question for my lawyer,” Jones said after the Patriots’ practice Friday night.

The Patriots cornerback is facing a variety of gun charges for allegedly attempting to bring two firearms and ammunition onto a plane in his carry-on luggage.

“When I get out here on this football field, it’s all ball, man,” Jones said. “I just come out here to play ball, give it my all and do what I’m supposed to for the team.”

Jones, 25, pleaded not guilty and posted $30,000 cash bail.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 18 for a probable cause hearing, which falls one day before the team’s preseason game against the Packers.

His lawyer Rosemary Scapicchio said in June that Jones “had no intention of bringing any guns into Logan Airport that day.”

James Borghesani, a spokesman for the office of Suffolk District Attorney Kevin R. Hayden, explained the stakes of Jones’ situation in June, saying “If he were convicted and sentenced consecutively on each charge he’d face more than 30 years in prison.”

The Patriots issued a statement at the time of the event, stating they were aware of the situation and were not commenting further.

Jones said it would be their decision whether he will be involved this season or not.

“That’s not my call. That’s up to Coach [Bill Belichick]. I just do what I’m supposed to do on the field, give it my all on the field and hope it falls in the right place,” he said.

“Every day you’re worried about your future on any team, because this league is very liquid. You could be here today and gone tomorrow on any team,” he added. “So you have to go out there and participate — availability is the best ability.”

The second-year cornerback was selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Arizona State and played in 13 games in his rookie season with two starts, tallying two interceptions — one for a touchdown — and 30 total tackles.

On Thursday, Jones reportedly left practice suddenly after making a play along the sideline and looked to have a conversation with cornerbacks coach Mike Pellegrino after the play.

Jones explained it was “nothing bad” and added, “We’re good today.”

“We had a conversation and that conversation is personal. We’re moving on to [the next practice to] watch him grow each day forward,” Pellegrino added.
