Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak, who has been known to crack a joke or two at his contestants’ expense, recently called a contestant a “downer” after she gushed about her new hobby.
Mariha Feliciano, a mother from Connecticut, excitedly told Sajak that she recently “started partaking in aquarium life” as a hobby at home, per The Sun.
“What do you have in there?” Sajak asked her, to which she replied that she currently had “some shrimp, snails and guppies.”
Feliciano continued, “And then I got two other fish I wasn’t familiar with and I named Piranha and Predator because they killed my other fish.”
This earned a laugh from the audience, but Sajak appeared shocked by the sudden turn of events. He replied, “Really a downer. I don’t wanna go on.”
Feliciano then tried to lighten the mood by noting that the rest of her fish were “still alive.”
But Sajak appeared to be over the conversation, as he dryly replied, “Let’s move on.”

Unfortunately for Feliciano, the awkward interaction appeared to set the tone for the rest of the show. She walked away with just $3,700 in earnings at the end of the episode.
This isn’t the first time Sajak has teased a contestant on air. In fact, Sajak’s ribbing has only seemed to increase recently since he announced he would be retiring from the show at the end of this season.
Just recently, Sajak teased a contestant after he finally solved a puzzle that had all three competitors momentarily stumped.
“You were bound to get there eventually,” Sajak told him. “There are only so many words in the English language.” The contestant did look a bit sheepish at Sajak’s teasing, but he still took the win.
Fans at home have definitely began to notice Sajak’s sassiness with contestants.
“Pat Sajak is tired of the shit,” one viewer tweeted on X. “Retire early bud!”
