One Halloween-themed puzzle proved a bit challenging on the Tuesday (Oct. 31) episode of Wheel Of Fortune, and some fans weren’t happy about it.
On the episode, which aired on Halloween night, the three Wheel contestants — Miles Glasscock, Jamie Seaberg, and Brandian Bufford — were tasked with solving a Crossword Round consisting of three interconnecting “Magical Words.” The competitors revealed two of the words, “Hocus-Pocus” and “Wish,” but the third eluded them.
The two middle letters of the four-letter word were revealed to be “IN”, but both Bufford and Seaberg failed at guessing any other correct letters on either side.
Thankfully for Glasscock, he correctly guessed the letter “J”and was able to identify the word as “jinx.”
Some viewers were annoyed though, claiming that the crossword theme “Magical Words” was misleading. One wrote, “Jinx is NOT a magical word.” (Not to wade into controversial territory, but personally, I think that a better word to include in this puzzle would have been “BINX,” in honor of Thackery Binx from the great Halloween-themed movie Hocus Pocus, but alas, that’s just me.)
With the puzzle giving contestants so much trouble, host Pat Sajak admitted that it was tough, saying, “What a terrible Halloween prank to play on these nice people.”
Despite his win during the Crossword round, Glasscock didn’t end up winning the episode — that honor went to Seaberg. She wasn’t able to solve the final puzzle correctly, though she did manage to take home over $21,000.
Wheel of Fortune airs on weeknights at 7:30/6:30c. Check out your local listings on the Wheel of Fortune website.
