NextImg:Paige Spiranac predicts ‘spicy’ fallout after PGA Tour-LIV Golf merger

Paige Spiranac believes golf Twitter is in for a “spicy” few days in the wake of Tuesday’s blockbuster merger between the PGA Tour and its controversial rival, LIV Golf.

The longtime golf influencer addressed Tuesday’s historic announcement in a series of tweets, likening the shocking cease-fire to a fragile union featured in the “Succession” series finale last month.

“The PGA Tour and LIV are merging golf twitter is about to be spicy the next couple days,” the 30-year-old Spiranac tweeted.

Spiranac also posted a photo from one of the final moments of HBO’s “Succession,” in which — spoiler alert — Shiv Roy (Sarah Snook) takes the hand of her recently estranged husband, Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen), after he is anointed the new CEO of Waystar Royco.

“LIV and PGAT fans now,” the social media sensation joked.

In a separate post, Spiranac — who boasts more than three million fans on Instagram — quipped about how Phil Mickelson, a famous LIV defector, could be feeling as one of the controversial circuit’s most outspoken critics, Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee, digests the news.

“Phil knowing Brandel is about to have the worst day ever with the news of the tour merging with LIV,” Spiranac wrote alongside a gif of Mickelson dancing.

Mickelson, a six-time major winner, appears to be thrilled about PGA and LIV joining forces with the DP World Tour, tweeting Tuesday, “Awesome day today.”

Brooks Koepka, who became the first LIV player to win a major at last month’s PGA Championship, also reacted to the stunning news with a four-word jab at Chamblee.

“Welfare Check on Chamblee,” the five-time major victor tweeted Tuesday.

As for the players on the PGA Tour, some fumed on Twitter as they seemed to be caught off guard by the merger.

“I love finding out morning news on Twitter,” two-time major champion Collin Morikawa tweeted, to which Scott Stallings responded, “You and me both.”

Spiranac is no stranger to going viral with her social media takes.

Back in April, the “Playing A Round” podcast host discussed LIV Golf’s event in Adelaide, Australia —which featured an “electric” atmosphere among fans — in a since scrubbed video.

“It was electric, but what’s frustrating is all the takes I was seeing on social media,” Spiranac said at the time, according to the Daily Mail.

“People were saying too much music, too much fun. When did too much fun become a bad thing?”

She then reiterated how entertainment is typically at the core of most sporting events.

“Fun is allowed and it should be encouraged, especially at sporting events. That’s why we go, to be entertained,” she said.

“And let’s be real, it’s golf, it’s not that serious. They are not saving lives or molding minds. They are chasing a ball around and hitting it with sticks, trying to get it into a hole.”

LIV Golf often features music and champagne celebrations at its tournaments, among other festivities, compared to its now-former rival PGA.
