INDIANAPOLIS — Jalen Brunson often declares “it’s on me” after any dismal offensive performance by the Knicks, and counterpart Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton is no different in that regard.
Haliburton and Indiana were held to a playoff-low 100 points — including just 42 in the second half — in the Knicks’ 106-100 victory in Game 3 for their first win of the Eastern Conference finals.
Despite finishing with a team-high 20 points, Haliburton squarely put the onus on himself for the Pacers letting the Knicks back in the series, with Game 4 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.
“Honestly, I think a lot of our offensive struggles in the second half will be due to me,” said Haliburton, who committed three of Indiana’s 14 turnovers. “I don’t think our execution was great. I didn’t do a great job of getting downhill and just making plays. I gotta do a better job there.
“I think I’m relied on a lot down the stretch of games to get guys in the right positions. I feel like I didn’t do, personally, a great job at that. … Execution down the stretch we can definitely be better, and that starts with me. So, you live with it, you watch film, and you get better, and you prepare for Game 4.”

In blowing a 20-point second-quarter lead, Indiana shot a paltry 5-for-25 from 3-point range for the game after nailing a combined 28 3s in the first two wins in New York.
Haliburton added that the Knicks’ revamped second unit — featuring demoted Josh Hart, Miles McBride and little-used veterans Delon Wright and Landry Shamet — “wreaked havoc” defensively and caused the Pacers to lose some of their pace.

The two-time All-Star acknowledged that he too often “walked the ball up the court” rather than pushing the tempo.
“It’s definitely an area where I know when I watch film, I’m going to kick myself for, I’m already thinking about it, kicking myself for it. … I just feel like we got kind of stagnant on that end. We had some missed shots, 5-for-25 from 3, that’s not ideal.
“So I know it’s a big area of improvement for me. I already know that’s what I’m going to see on the film. So I’ve gotta do a better job of keeping pace in the game. Obviously, a 42-point [second] half isn’t us. So we’ll see what we can do better there, and we’ll improve on it.”
