And Just Like That... Season 3 Episode 3 “Carrie Golightly” marks the triumphant return of Ryan Serhant (as himself) to the Sex and the City universe. Fans of the MAX show will recall that the real estate mogul and reality superstar first popped up in AJLT Season 2 in an episode where Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury) needed help pleasing persnickety client Ravi Gordi (Armin Amini). Now, he’s back! And according to the Owning Manhattan star, reprising the role of “Ryan Serhant” was a no brainer.
“Let’s just say, when I got the call, I didn’t Carrie Bradshaw-style wonder if I should do it again….I knew!” Serhant told DECIDER via email. “Playing the iconic role of Ryan Serhant is a dream come true, and being invited back into this world where real estate is just as dramatic as dating was an absolute thrill.”
Serhant might have been in Seema’s corner in And Just Like That… Season 2, but now he’s making major moves that threaten her career plans.
In And Just Like That… Season 3 Episode 3 “Carrie Golightly,” Seema learns that her long-term real estate partner Elliot Poust (John Glover) is retiring. (He is, after all, 90!) Rather than give Seema the opportunity to buy him out, he’s selling his majority shares in Poust & Patel to none other than Ryan Serhant. This means that Seema not only won’t be able to live her dream of being the firm’s number one, but that her name will be cut completely.
“Look, in real estate and in love, things move fast,” Serhant said of his fictional character’s actions. “Seema’s a boss. She doesn’t get pushed out. She evolves, she pivots, she reinvents.”
“I didn’t take over, I just did what the character of Ryan Serhant was written to do: build the Serhant Empire.”
By the end of And Just Like That… Season 3 Episode 3, Seema has decided to part ways with her old firm to start her own. When we asked how things stand between him and Sarita Choudhury’s character, Serhant was optimistic.
“She’s too fierce not to bounce back even bigger,” Serhant said. “As Carrie once said, ‘Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with.’ In this case, maybe the brokerage breakup was just business and the friendship stays solid.'”
So can And Just Like That… fans expect to see more Ryan Serhant in the future? We asked if Serhant would be willing to reprise his role as himself down the line, perhaps even as a rival for Seema.
“At this point I’m not sure how the show continues without me, honestly,” he said. “After all, as Samantha once said, ‘I love you, but I love me more.'”
