Real estate mogul Ryan Serhant shared on Owning Manhattan that he once had a buyer threaten to murder him if he didn’t get him out of his $22 million contract. But, according to Serhant, that is hardly the only sketchy experience he’s had while working in the industry.

The famed broker recently visited DECIDER’s offices, where he detailed the time a buyer “vanished off the face of the Earth” after signing a contract for an $8.3 million property.

But the client — whom Serhant described as a “foreign person” from a potentially “scary” country — eventually reappeared in New York City to close on the listing.

“[I’m like], ‘I thought you were dead. Like, what? This is insane,'” Serhant recalled telling his client over the phone. “He’s like, ‘Meet me at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on 59th Street.’ And I’m like, ‘OK.’ [I] called everyone [and said], ‘He’s here. He’s alive.'”

When Serhant arrived at their meeting place, he said the client came down with “a fleet of people,” including an espresso assistant. He then recalled a “streak of blacked-out Escalades that are bulletproof” pulling up right as he got there. His client demanded that he “get in” the car before they both drove to John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens, NY.

“I also thought I was going to die in that moment. I didn’t know what was going to happen,” Serhant admitted. “I didn’t know if I was going to be sold off into pieces or into sex slavery. I really have no idea and so I’m texting my mom. I’m like, ‘Goodbye, my life has been OK. I love you very much.'”

Serhant told us — and get ready for this one — that his client went to airport to purchase a plane before driving them back into Manhattan, buying the apartment and taking a selfie with him.

“I’m like, ‘I don’t know what just happened. Also, why did you just randomly show up?'” Serhant said. “He’s like, ‘Yeah, sorry. I’ve been a little bit busy. Also, I just felt bad for you. So figured I’d just buy it.'”

According to Serhant, that was the moment he realized his “superpower” was “wild persistence.”

“I will follow up with you until you just show up and buy it just to get rid of me,” he concluded.

Owning Manhattan is currently streaming on Netflix.
