One person was killed after a garbage truck crashed and flew off an elevated exit ramp in Baltimore, landing on railroad tracks below, city officials said.
The truck barreled off the ramp on the southbound Maryland Route 295 near Monroe Street in south Baltimore around 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, officials told WBAL-TV.
One person died at the scene.
The Post has reached out to local authorities for additional information.
Video from WBAL-TV shows the truck laying its side under the exit ramp from southbound Interstate 95 to the southbound Baltimore-Washington Parkway. No lanes appeared to have been shut down.
The Maryland Transportation Authority Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is handling the investigation.
The deadly crash comes just over a week after Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed into the Patapsco River on March 26 when a massive cargo ship smashed into one of its main supports.
Six construction workers were killed.
Efforts are underway to remove the heaps of steel and concrete at the site of the collapse, where authorities believe the bodies of four of the victims are still trapped.
The owners of the ship, Synergy and Grace Ocean, filed a court petition Monday seeking to limit their legal liability — a routine but important procedure for cases litigated under US maritime law.
A federal court in Maryland will ultimately decide who is responsible.
