One person was killed and two others injured after a Friday morning vehicle collision involving a fuel truck sparked a massive blaze on Connecticut’s Gold Star Memorial Bridge.

Horrifying footage from the scene shows orange flames and billowing black smoke on the bridge between Groton and New London. The damage spread to the buildings nearby as first responders struggled to contain the fire.

The accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. when a fuel tanker collided with another vehicle and rolled over, WTNH reported.

The driver of the tanker was pronounced dead at the scene, while the two passengers in the other car were transported to the hospital.

None of the victims have been identified.

First responders closed I-95 during the initial clean-up, the outlet said. By 12:50 p.m., Connecticut State Police confirmed that northbound lanes had reopened while southbound lanes remained blocked.
