NextImg:Once the most expensive home in the US, this NYC penthouse just got a $55M price cut

This cherry of a unit atop America’s most expensive apartment building has undergone an enormous discount.

When the penthouse apartment at Midtown Manhattan’s Central Park Tower listed last September, its sky-high $250 million asking price made it the most expensive home for sale in the nation — and, at the very least, one that could have broken a New York City sales record if it traded hands for that stratospheric sum.

Now, though, having failed to sell after a year on the market, the three-story condo has gotten a giant, $55 million price chop. The luxe abode is now seeking 22% less, or $195 million, Bloomberg first reported.

Although still seeking nine figures, the reduction means the penthouse is no longer threatening to dethrone the current record holder for New York’s priciest-ever home sale.

Hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin’s roughly $238 million purchase at nearby 220 Central Park South in 2019 still firmly wears that crown. He’s no stranger to breaking sales records around the world.

The Central Park Tower triplex begins on the 129th floor of 217 W. 57th St., 1,416 feet above it all.

It also spans the 130th and 131st floors of the building, which is not only the tallest tower on Billionaire’s Row — but also the tallest residential building in the world.

It has 179 two- to eight-bedroom apartments, and was co-developed by Extell and Shanghai Municipal Investment, The Post reported when it first unveiled its views back in 2019.

“It’s so high, you are above noise,” Ryan Serhant of Serhant, who holds the listing, told The Post last year when the palatial pad listed for sale. The Post has reached out for comment on this pricing update. “When you are on the terrace, you hear nothing — maybe an airplane, but that’s it. You are above sound. It’s so serene. It is magical. You are 1,400 feet in the air, stepping out onto your own terrace, surrounded by a huge glass wall. There has never been anything like it.”

It has some 17,500 square feet of interior space, more than 1,400 square feet of outdoor terrace and 27-foot-high ceilings throughout.

There are two kitchens, two ballrooms, 11 bathrooms, seven bedrooms, multiple living and entertainment spaces, a library, a media room, a study and a separate service entrance.
