In a dramatic twist during Oklahoma’s 93-87 win over No. 21 Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon in Norman, guard Duke Miles endured a painful setback when he lost parts of two teeth.

While attempting to secure a loose ball, Miles dove aggressively as Mississippi State’s Riley Kugel closed in, resulting in an awkward fall that dislodged parts of his teeth.

Immediately, Oklahoma’s training staff, led by trainer Seth Tisdale, rushed to Miles’ side.

Tisdale later confirmed to the Sooners’ radio broadcasters that Miles had chipped two teeth, and the team dentist was on hand in the locker room when coach Porter Moser later addressed the situation during a postgame radio interview.

“Our team dentist was in the locker room when I went to do radio. His teeth aren’t that pretty right now,” Moser said. “He was doing fine when I left; he was just hustling, diving for a ball.”

Despite the injury, Miles returned to the game within minutes.

His return proved to be crucial as he helped the Sooners seal the victory, even sinking a critical free throw in the final minute of the contest.

Miles finished the game with 3 points, one rebound and one assist in 16 minutes of play.

The Sooners are now 17-10 on the year though just 4-10 in conference play, tied for 13th in the 16-team SEC.
