Some things are off-limits, and former NFL running back OJ Simpson crossed that line when talking about the season-ending Achilles injury Aaron Rodgers suffered Monday night.

In an appearance on “It Is What It Is,” Simpson said: “The Jets are still going to be good, and that kid [Zach Wilson] learned a lot from Aaron. Unfortunately, 9/11 is just a bad date for New York.”

Hosts Cam’ron, Ma$e & Treasure “Stat Baby” Wilson burst into laughter on the set, while Simpson also chuckled while quickly pivoting to a point about the NFL preseason.

“You’ve gotta play,” Simpson explained. “That’s the problem with not playing at all before you go out on the field. That wouldn’t have been a bad tackle. You have to get your body loose and you have to get some contact.”

Rodgers was injured on the fourth play of his Jets career after delivering an exhilarating run onto the field with the American flag in hand.

His Jets debut happened to come on Sept. 11, on the 22nd anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks.

The Jets’ star quarterback was lost for the season just moments later, saying “sorry kid” to budding star receiver Garrett Wilson at halftime during the game.

As for Simpson, this wasn’t the first time he struggled with humor in the public eye.

The Jets are committed to Wilson as their quarterback for the remainder of the season, but they are expected to bring in a veteran to back him up.
