NextImg:Ohio State burns bettors with meaningless extra point in latest bad beat

Here’s your bad beat of the week and possibly year.

Saturday’s Ohio State-Notre Dame thriller wasn’t just a fun watch for casual fans, but the gamblers as well.

With seconds to go in the game and Ohio State facing a 3rd-and-goal, Buckeyes running back Chip Trayanum ran into the Fighting Irish end zone to put Ohio State up 16-14.

That touchdown happened as time seemed to expire, and a 16-14 victory would have given Notre Dame the cover.

The Fighting Irish came into the game as three-point underdogs at most sportsbooks.

However, the officials saw it differently.

The referees put one more second on the clock, giving Ohio State a shot at an extra point to put them up by three to push the spread.

Ohio State kicker Jayden Fielding knocked it in with ease in what was a nothing moment in the game but meant everything for the gamblers.

A Notre Dame potential cover instead turned into a push.

Complicating things even further, Notre Dame only had ten players on the field for the final play.

Bettors were surely upset, but the game was one of many tough finishes for bettors already this football season.

During Week 2 of the NFL season, Rams head coach Sean McVay opted to kick a game-ending field goal to bring his team with seven points –  covering the 7.5-point spread against the San Francisco 49ers.

That field goal had no effect on the final score, but burned 49ers backers.

Saturday’s matchup was one of the biggest games of the young college football season.

The Buckeyes came into the game ranked No. 6, while the Fighting Irish sat at No. 9.
