The Athletics are Sacramento-bound before their anticipated move to Las Vegas for 2028.
The Oakland franchise will call Sutter Health Park stadium in California’s state capitol home for the 2025-27 seasons, the team announced Thursday, with an option to play there in 2028 as well, per ESPN.
“On behalf of all MLB, I want to express my appreciation to West Sacramento, Sutter Health Park, the Kings and the greater Sacramento region for their excitement to host the A’s for interim play as the new A’s permanent home is built in Las Vegas,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement.
Sutter Health Park, home to the San Francisco Giants’ Triple-A affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats, has 10,624 stadium seats and the grass outfield seats will bump capacity to 14,000, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The A’s will share the stadium with the River Cats with specifics on how that will work yet to be determined.
Dimensions of the venue are similar to that of the Oakland Coliseum, 330 feet to left field, 325 to right, and 403 feet to dead center.
The venue is just under one mile away from the Golden 1 Center, home of the Sacramento Kings.
There had been rumblings of the A’s finding a different home in the interim, with The Post’s Mark W. Sanchez reporting in January that the team had been targeting a minor league baseball stadium in Utah holding just 7,500 people.
“We explored several locations for a temporary home, including the Oakland Coliseum,” A’s owner John Fisher said in a statement, according to CBS Sports.

“Even with the long-standing relationship and good intentions on all sides in the negotiations with Oakland, the conditions to achieve an agreement seemed out of reach. We understand the disappointment this news brings to our fans, as this season marks our final one in Oakland. Throughout this season, we will honor and celebrate our time in Oakland, and will share additional details soon.”
The most loyal A’s fans who live in Oakland will now have to travel a little more than an hour to see their team compete in games starting next year.
At last week’s home opener, A’s fans boycotted the game by staying in the parking lot rather than heading into the stadium.
The Oakland A’s are expected to be among the worst teams in baseball, starting with a 1-6 record after being swept by the Red Sox as they head into a three-game set with the Tigers beginning Friday.
