NextImg:NYU student who ripped down Israeli hostage posters insists she ‘loves to protect Jewish issues’

An NYU student activist who shamelessly tore down posters of Israeli hostages has apologized again for her misplaced anger — this time insisting that “her love of protecting Jewish issues is still strong.”

Yazmeen Deyhimi — a junior at the top university who previously worked for the Anti-Defamation League — confessed to ripping apart posters plastered outside NYU’s Tisch Hall out of frustration that “both sides, Israeli and Palestinians, were not represented.”

“Her frustration was that innocent children, teens, adults and elderly were also being killed, who are also Palestinians who are NOT Hamas,” a statement released by Deyhimi’s spokesman read.

“Many Palestinians have no association with Hamas. She was frustrated both sides, Israeli and Palestinians, were not represented on the posters.”

Deyhimi, who came clean about the incident following social media backlash, “interned at the ADL in the past,” according to the statement, which also noted, “her love of protecting Jewish issues is still strong, but, like others, she has many Israeli friends and many Palestinian friends. Like many she seeks peace for all.”

The pre-law student first issued an apology on Instagram in a since-deleted post.

She was quickly identified by her NYU peers shortly after the video went viral, with hundreds of students and social media users calling for the three “cowards” to be punished by NYU.

A spokesman for Deyhimi and her family released a statement following the incident.

Deyhimi is described in the statement as a “young Indian and Middle-Eastern, American, Hindu, girl in university who is still learning and still loving.”

“Like many she is still learning. Like many, she is also sorry for her actions born of frustration, but let’s not define a student’s entire life for one moment of frustration,” the statement reads. “She knows the pain she caused the Israeli and Jewish communities. She is forever sorry for her action of taking away the attention Israeli hostages on posters deserved then and now.”

NYU said it was “seriously” investigating the incident.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Deyhimi is an advocate against Muslim bigotry and spent a summer working with the ADL as a CSC education intern when she was just 15 years old.

NYU told The Post early Tuesday that it was “seriously” looking into the matter, but did not respond to a request for an update since the pair was identified.

Social media users slammed the school for not standing up for its Jewish students.

The incident sparked public outcry demanding that NYU punish Deyhimi and her accomplices.

It is not clear whether Deyhimi or her accomplices — a freshman who serves as a Muslim Youth Leadership Council member at Advocates for Youth and an unidentified male in a dark hood — were slapped with any disciplinary action by the university.

More than 200 people have been taken hostage by Hamas, and about 50 more kidnapping victims are being held by other “resistance factions and in other places,” Hamas military officials said Monday.

At least 1,400 people in Israel and 3,000 in Gaza have been killed since Hamas launched its surprise attack on the Jewish state on Oct. 7, prompting Israel’s military to prepare an anticipated “integrated and coordinated attack from air, sea and land” in response.

President Joe Biden visited Israel Wednesday as the Israel Defense Forces prepare to invade Gaza to clear out Hamas.
