An NYPD cop was identified Friday as the man killed in a bizarre boat crash in which the craft flew out of the Great South Bay on Long Island and smashed into a West Fire Island home.
Authorities ID’d the dead man as Phillip Sanzano, 47, of Bellport, LI — and law-enforcement sources told The Post that the victim was an officer who worked in the 83rd Precinct in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
Sanzano was an 18-year veteran of the department and once served in the US military, sources said.
It’s still not clear what led to Thursday’s accident, which left the 30-foot Wellcraft center-console boat lodged in a home’s deck at about 7:35 a.m., the Suffolk County Police Department said Friday.
The boat’s other occupant, Christopher Cannella, 47, called 911 to report that he and Sanzano had been on board when the craft ran aground and flew into the home, coming to rest flipped over.
It was not immediately known who was operating the boat at the time.
Sanzano was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities brought Cannella, a West Babylon native, to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with non-life-threatening injuries, cops said.
“I feel for the families,” said John Scherger, a neighbor who lives near the home.
“I’m praying it wasn’t foul play. I’m praying it was just an accident. I don’t know. I’m just praying for it positive things.”

Authorities said two men had left before dawn to go fishing Thursday morning. It’s not clear from which mooring they departed.
The Islip Fire Department said the boat seemed to be moving very fast just before the crash.
Cops said the boat would have had to go airborne to land where it did.
No one at the damaged home when the crash occurred.
Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Third Squad are investigating.
