Shelby Karivalis can’t live without her Doona — the deluxe convertible stroller that is rarely available for under $500.
“The Doona Stroller is the reason why I have been able to attend as many social events with my daughter as I do,” explained Karivalis, who lives in Tribeca and has a seven-month-old daughter.
Take a walk through Central Park or alongside the Westside highway, and you’re likely to spot a slew of small, sleek faux-leather strollers trekking down the sidewalk. Doonas are a not-so-secret, secret for busy parents, prized for convertible designs that let them transform from a stroller to a carseat in seconds.
“I would say the Doona makes getting around NYC with a baby simple,” said Karivalis. “It’s truly a hassle-free way to transport your baby from the car to walking around, to seated at dinner, public transportation, and everywhere in between,” said Karivalis.

The Doona, which typically retails for $550, has been marked down to just $350 ahead of Black Friday — the lowest price in 30 days. Considering how in-demand the buzzy stroller brand is, it’s not unlikely that the limited-time deal will be snatched up fast. Over 3,000 were purchased on Amazon in the last month alone.
Many convertible strollers come with car seats that replace the bassinet or seat. However, they often require multiple steps to put together and come apart in multiple pieces, which can be exceptionally difficult when trying to load a baby, diaper bag, stroller parts, and other items into a taxi or the subway.
The Doona, on the other hand, moves from car seat to stroller at the click of a button. It’s the only convertible stroller that has been tested and certified as a rear-facing car seat, a stroller, and an infant carrier. It’s also approved for air travel.
The Doona Car Seat Stroller is suitable for babies between 4 to 35 lbs, making it a great baby registry item and an ideal first stroller for getting home from the hospital.
Karivalis also owns a full-sized Bugaboo Stroller, but opts for the Doona whenever she is heading outside of a mile radius from home, “The Doona is my go-to stroller if I’m going more than a 30-minute walk from my apartment or if the weather is unfavorable because I know I can easily convert it to a car seat and take a car home.”
The size of the Doona is also a huge draw for parents constantly trekking around the city. At just 36 pounds, there’s little chance to work up a sweat while pushing it around. Not to mention, the narrow build is also ideal for maneuvering restaurants or stores, according to Karivalis.
“Another huge plus is that it is small and compact making it a great stroller to take if you’re going out to dinner. A lot of NYC restaurants are crowded and don’t have ample space, so the Doona makes it very easy to move through the restaurant and pull up to your table.”
“I am the Doona’s biggest fan. My daughter is the Doona Queen,” she exclaimed. “We can’t live without it!”
